Virgin Its Not A Dirty Word

In Baltimore I have seen Billboards with a statement that I find very offensive. On the billboard it say “ Virgin teach your kids its not a dirty word”. Now this statement is meant to promote children not having sex and staying abstinent for a long time. This is a good thing and I personally have nothing wrong with this. But the reason it offends me is how it is worded. It makes me fee like just because I am not a virgin that I am dirty. I practice safe sex and take all the percussions in order to stay safe. But just because I am doing it makes me dirty? The longer teenagers stay virgins the longer they will be completely safe. However, if kids want to have sex they are going to do it. Why not promote different ways to have safe sex instead of trying to force virginity on everyone. From what I understand these billboards were meant to promote catholic ideals. So one other reason this Billboard offends me is because it is suggesting you are not religious and pure unless your are a virgin. I go to church every weekend and dress in my Sundays best, but does this make me a bad person because I am not a virgin. If these Billboards could be reworded they would be more considerate. The people behind these Billboards need to think about what they are saying before they post these Billboards. They say they are just trying to promote being safe and make sure kids know its ok to be virgin. However for those of us who are not virgins anymore and cant take back what we have done, these billboards just make us feel dirty. The word virgin on the Billboard is also painted on the white canvas in a vulgar way. Almost like someone tried to spray-paint it on the board. Almost like people were trying making the word look dirty and then say teach your kids it’s not dirty. To me this whole advertisement is messed up. I know I am not dirty even though I am not a virgin.

Public Relations at College Games

While attending the schools baskets ball game there are many things that try to influence your behavior. While at the game during time outs and at halftime the cheerleaders and palm squad would go out and promote all the teams’ sponsors in little competitions. One way they did this is by running out in the crowd and giving away things. I won a free pizza from seasons pizza just for acting loud and crazy. This gets the companies name out there and gets me even hyper bringing more energy to the game. One other way is the cheerleaders would come out and hold up a big cardboard credit card. If you have this credit card then you hold it up and you win a prize. Both these “ games” gave good prizes, made everyone in the crowd remember the companies name, and it made everyone acted crazy to bring more energy to the game. This is what basket ball is about and without energy at the game then it would not be fun. So were these companies successful with their attempts in trying to promote their product along with fun at a basket ball game? I would say yes! Seasons Pizza promotes every game and when we think about easting after the game we want pizza. Now, when I think of a credit card I think of the kind of card they show at the game. An m&t bank-checking card. They can do other things to make their promotions a lot more successful however. They could try to plan their halftime games with a theme. Try to relate them with Towson University so ever will remember it. They could also try to consult pro. Event planners with there ideas and see what they think. For the most part though they are doing a good job by connecting to the college students. They bring energy and a party like atmosphere to the game, which the students love. Public Relations at college games is important, students spend a lot of money over the course of the year so when they go to the store you want them to remember your product.

New Moon Makes Millions

In the past month one movie has been advertised so much that I am sick of seeing it. The new movie that just came out Friday twilight New Moon has been all over the media. It easily made over 100 million in one weekend making it the best movie-selling weekend of the year. You could see ads for this movie everywhere. They were on TVs., radio, and on many popular website. The home page of facebook and myspace had pictures of the main characters in the movies in the background. Also on TV it is still commen to see a twilight New Moon commercial when ever you turn it on.

Do you think their way of advertising was affective? The promoters for this movie ran the commercials at the perfect time of the day for there target age group, they made the trailer full of action and drama, and they started promoting early. If you ask me they couldn’t of done a better job. I am personally not a fan of the movie twilight nor am I fan of the books. However, when I see the commercial I want to just jump out of my seat and go watch the movie. The books are usually seen as more of a girly book and they found a way to turn this into a movie that everyone would enjoy. Whether you go out and see the movie or not one thing is for sure there is no way you can say it does not look good to you. The people advertising this film did a great job and if you don’t believe me the numbers don’t lie. They made 140 million dollars in there first weekend with only more to come.

A Book Isn’t Just a Book

Last year I was stuck with reading a book called the Picture of Dorian Gray. I had no clue what the book was about at first and the only reason I was reading it was because I had to do it for my research paper. I bought the book at Barnes and Nobles book store and it was pretty cheep. While reading the book I was very confused. The man in the book was a painter and he kept getting uglier and uglier in his self-portrait. Every time he got uglier in the picture he also started acting different as a person. In the end he killed himself because the picture showed who he had really become in his real life. This book taught me a life lesson. Even though u are beautiful on the outside, if u are mean to people they will see you as ugly. Now before this book I hated reading. Afterwards I wanted to read more. It was the first book that I ever finish all the way and I felt a since of accomplishment. This book effects what I read today because I try to go into each book with an open mind. If I go into it not wanting to read it then no matter how good it is I will not enjoy it. Now I don’t mind books so much and it’s a way to get away from the world in a way.

Disney in America

Growing up as a “ Disney Kid” I always enjoyed watching my three favorite movies. These were Aladdin, The Lion King, and Toy Story. I watched these movies countless times and learned many life lessons from them. Many people believe that the messages that Disney puts in their movies shape children’s lives. Is this really a bad thing though? Many people thing there are but through out the years millions of children have watched and learned from Disney movies. All the movies have positive messages in them anyway. In Aladdin it teaches kids to always to the right thing and treat women with respect and love. In The Lion King it teaches kids to be brave and never be scared of challenges in life. Finally in Toy Story it teaches kids not to judge a book by its cover. So what is wrong with our children learning about these things? The only bad thing I can see is that the parents are not teaching the kids these values instead they are learning from a movie. Another good thing that Disney does for kids is creates a world where they can easily make friends at school. If a kid just started school and see someone with a cars t-shirt on and they liked that movie too they could just make friends with them. This can however put pressure on there parents though. Parents could feel like they have to buy these things for there kids because that’s what is cool now. But for the most part I feel like Disney is a good thing. It shapes kids with good moral values. If they get rich off this then goo for them, they had a good idea and took off with it.

Facebook is the Future

In the resent couple years many online social networks have become very popular. The most popular one however is Facebook. With only 200 million users facebook has grown a lot sense it was first made in 2004. However how good is this? Facebook is taking over many people’s lives. Our generation has based how they meet new people and friends off of facebook. In a way you can get to know what kind of person someone is without even meeting them. Your can look at there pictures and see what there status is basically getting inside the other persons head. However, this is not really a bad thing. It helps college students going to a new school meet many people on campus and could help them get there work done if they have group project. So in a way I would say that facebook is helping out the students outside the classroom. One thing that it has played a huge roll in lately is job interviews. If you are applying for a job don’t put anything bad up on your facebook. Companies are starting to look at what you do outside of work and making sure they are hiring someone that will represent there company good. Finally, facebook is even starting to take over the Advertising market. People are paying the makers of facebook thousands of dollars to put up small ads on there website. Millions of people see these everyday multiple times in the day so this is one of the strongest methods of advertisement to date. This method is so powerful that it was even used in the Presidential Campaign by our president now Barrack Obama. Facebook is the future. Its that simple, when we start using it as a way to promote someone that will lead our country for the next couple years that’s when you know its the real deal. If you don’t have a facebook I strongly suggest that you make one and for people who think its stupid think again. It is the newest and fastest way to get information in today’s world.

2035 Infinite Possibilities

The world in 2035 could go in so many different directions. The way that technology is rapidly advancing it’s almost scary to think about what life will be like in the future. There could be two different kinds of world in the future if u asks me. A world where we have control of the technology and media. Or the world will be in the hands of several different major companies that without them we would not be able to survive. In the world today we already rely on the media industry way too much but if this continues it look like people will not be able to live without it at all.

The way I believe the world will be in the year 2035 is just tons of technology. Everything that we do will have to rely on our smart phones, or our computers. The first think I think will change though is the housing industry. One thing that I believe is in the not too far future is a kind of smart house. Where you can talk to the house and change the temp. In the house. Another thing that the house will do if clean its own dishes and put them away. Much of this technology it already being invented. In this program you can talk to the computer and it does everything that it wants you to. If you want the fan on in your hows then you ask the computer to turn it on and with out even leaving your seat the fan will come on. This could even change the way that we watch t.v. The next step in the t.v. World if to make holograms. This could change the communications industry forever. If you see a commercial of a new game that you might want to buy and it’s in its hologram form it would be like you’re actually in the middle of the game. One final thing that could change is along with the holograms you could have smellowvision. This is when maybe you are watching the food channel and you really want to know how the food smells turn on your smellowvision and smell away. One final change that I believe will happen is fast food atm. Almost just like a money atm. the fast food atm you put your card into the machine and pick your meal its cooked by computer and sent out the machine. The fast food industry would be able put these in malls and basically anywhere. They would also be saving a lot of money in the long run by not having to hire employees. This is the future and it seems like none of these ideas are to far out of reach.

The World When Media Goes Crazy

The world could possibly go a completely different way then anyone could of predicted. The worse thing that could happen is the media totally takes overt the world to where we cannot live without it. Media is already the glue that holds many families together. This is already very tragic. Family is something that should never have to be held together by anything yet people rely on it, as a way to communicate with there loved ones. Another thing that could get even worse is people’s addiction to texting. People already cant really go without this and in the future who knows what kind of fun way of communication they will come up with. Media will one-day rule everyone’s lives if it keeps going the way it is today. People all across the world will one day never have to leave there homes to go to work or interact with other people. They will be able to do their work from their house and interact with other people by being online or videotext messages. Also, if the media continues to grown like it is today who knows when machines will totally just take over all of the work force? When something new is invented to make a job easier it is most likely putting a person out of a job. So if things keep progressing millions will continue to loose jobs and who knows how the market will look then. The world of media will continue to always go and expand but the true question is how will we be able to control it.

Life With and Without Media

Ok so two days ago i started keeping track of all the media in my life and wouldn’t you know that about 80 % of my time spent awake i am constantly consuming media. It got to the point where it was getting hard to log everything that i was exposed to. After seeing everything i logged i was extremely surprised. The first five mins. i was exsposed to 12 different types of media. The only thing i could think of is how i would have to try and do without all these important things the next day.

Ok so the first thing i did when i woke up is turn off my alarm clock. You see my alarm clock has a lot of stickers on it so media was first introduced to me in seconds of my day. I then continued to take my shower and after that went to eat. While at the food court i seen media from the soda fountain and also from the tv which was on espn sports center. So this is only into my day for a hour and i have already gotten media threw my alarm clock, shower, and eating. I then had to go to class.

On my way to class i seen a lot of different people in different clothes. This is another form of media and i was exposed to this for the next 3 hours while going and coming from class. So finally after class i got back to my room and had to check my facebook and email. This took about a hour and i seen ads from Gatorade to victoria secret. Media is all over the internet and i was very surprised to see that here is where i got most of my media exposure. After this i took a nap which was needed dearly.

When i woke up me and my roommate went out to dinner. Once again i was exposed to media threw peoples clothes and from the soda fountains. However media was introduced to me in many ways on the way to the food courts. Some of the ways it was introduced to me is people handing out flyers and clothes once again. On the way back from the food court i seen media on cars as well. A red bull car drove by and i stopped them to get some free red bull . YUM…. but yea so after this i stayed inside for the remainder of the night with my room mate and we played madden from about 830- 12. This gave media exposure from the game and all its sponsors. After i called it a day and was not looking forward to my next day with no media.

WORST DAY OF MY LIFE

Yesterday i had to try and avoid media at all cost in order to try and see how hard life is without it. So my day started off very bad. I did not use my alarm clock that way i would not see the stickers on it. This made me late to my first class of the day which happened to be yours : / sorry. The whole walk to your class room i was so tempted to text message my friends and girlfriend but i could not. Finally i got to your class and i could not totally avoid media because of the soda machines in the hall way.

After your class had ended i thought i would have it easy because i have a two hour math class and i would not be able to think about texting or talking to my friends. When i got to the math class i seen it had been canceled. This was defiantly a very bad thing. That was the last class and i was stuck with no plans at 11 in the morning. I walked home to my tower and was unable to avoid the media of the soda machines in the lobby. When i got back to my room i sat there and waited for my room mate to get back trying not to text or get on the computer. Finally he got home and i could go out with friends and try to avoid my phone as much as possible. We decided to go play football.

We played for a couple hours and then when i got back to the room it got really hard to avoid the phone. My girl friend was getting out of class and i know she would text message me soon. The phone started to buzz twenty mins later and i knew it was her. I tried my hardest not to think about it but after a half an hour i cracked i can only amagine going for days like this man in this video.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vmEErhy7AIc. This man went for two days without his phone and i dont know how he did it. After just a couple hours i felt separated from the world without it. I felt like my girlfriend would think something was wrong if i didnt text her back i needed to do it. I could not hold myself back from talking to her anymore.

Finally we all went out to dinner. It is impossibly to avoid media when you are outside. peoples clothing, sodas, and even our campus tries to push ideas on you. While walking to dinner there were greek life on campus flyers everywhere. Also when i got to the food court the Pepsi machines….. it was just impossible for me to avoid it. After dinner we all went back to our room and they played madden. I tried to avoid it but i couldn’t. I played a game of it and i won. So i had to play until i lost. After this i talked to my girlfriend and called it a early day. Not being able to use any of my electronic items during the day put stress on me and drained my body. It truly was the hardest thing i ever had tried to do. Not being able to talk to my girl friend pushed me to the edge and i could not continue my day without a phone. Its crazy to think people went without these kinds of items before and survived.

Media History

In class the other day we watch the movie on media history and it really got me thinking. In the world that we live in today many people relieve on media and communications for everything in there life’s. However not many of us know where this revolution even began. The video in class surprised me and made me realize how easy life is for us now compared to life one hundred years ago. I know that if i could not text someone every hour of every day i would go crazy which i am trying to do right now for my second blog.

The history of media started with cave paintings and other symbols that our ancient ancestors use to use to tell stories. It then Continues and hundreds of years later we have scribes that would write books for only the higher class people. This is because only the higher class could read back in those times. However it was nearly impossible for a scribe to make a identical copy of a book. i found this interesting. How many of the old stories that we know today could have some sort of change to them because an ancient scribe putting his own two cent into the story.

The start of mass media happened when the printing press was invented this gave the masses the ability to get literature and learn how to read. However the printing press was not the end of the communications revolution. The telegraph was invented and people were about to send electronic messages to people with out have to travel or write to there audience. I find this so amazing. Its almost like people had to learn a new language in order to understand the beeps coming though. The invention of the telegraph paved the way for radio, tv, and eventually computers to run the media world. When it comes to media the possibilities are endless and in the world that we live in today only time can tell when the new revolution to this industry will be.
